but sl lanka army is not only an army of conventional warfare (in your words.." an army who fights by the rules)
army Special forces and commando units and even the STF are trained to fight also the unconventional type warefare...
As I can remeber, it was during the IPKF intervention (in 1987) govt and military high commands understood the importance of training our forces to fight Indians will be a necessary . (Mr Ravi Jayawardhana workd hard to develop this kind of unconvetional fighting units and another persone was Col Lafir, one of founders of modern SF s - sadly he dead during the Mulativu rescue ops in 1996)
you know that already we have Deep penetration unit (DPU) who infiltrate into the TIGER areas and cary out the guerilla type attacks
