I'm not sure about moving from php to java, but i'm pretty sure I wanna do both of them. I don't know, perhaps I'll move.
However, as you've said, I'm gonna study java core concepts and practice with a framework and i was waiting a long time to have this experience but had no time. But Now I wanna get it soon.

sure, the IDEs for multi purposes, they are not frameworks. We can use frameworks for these IDEs. I already have installed "Spring" to Netbeans so I needed know more facts about these things from seniors.

1. Java core concepts(Variables, Flow Controls, OOP, Collections, Exceptions, Threads etc)
2. JSP and Servlet (These are fundamental building blocks of any Java web applications )
3. Application server and Deployment(Jboss, Tomcat, Weblogic etc)
4. Design Patterns (at least basic idea)
5. Web frameworks(Struts, Spring, Hibernate, Vaadin, Wicket, Play etc)
6. Integrations Frameworks(ESB, Camel, Akka, Messaging(ActiveMQ) etc)
7. Unit testing (JUnit, Mockito, Arquillian etc )
8. Build and Deployment tools (Ant, Maven, Gradle, Jenkins etc)

Design Patterns are proven solutions to recurrent issues in software development. So the framework is a well tested collection of reusable component which is built following design patterns and best practices. So the developers needn't be solid using design patterns. They can use a framework which is already well tested. Spring is one such a framework. Spring was created as an alternative to EJB2 to mitigate some drawbacks. But EJB3 has almost same features Spring has. But still worth to learn. (EJB is the Java's own framework to build enterprise application).

There are lot of free resources to learn these technologies. I assumed that you want to become a real Java engineer. In Sri Lanka having these skill set with 4-5 years of experience can expect around 150K-250K. (Even more)
