If u own a geforce 8 series or higher or a Radeon 2K series or higher card yes its definitely faster than the CPU client, on higher models its up to 30X faster than any CPU client

it has nothing to do with the pcs. this is distributed computing. instead of getting a super pc with 1000 cpus or so, you can use the idle resources in the whole world (and that's more than a 1000cpu machine) to get results faster.
