A protest campaign organized by the DNA calling for the release of Gen (retd) Sarath Fonseka in Galle came under a teargas attack a shortly ago, Police said.
The protest commenced from near the statue of Henry Olcott in Galle town around 3.45 p.m. and came under attack within 15 minutes.
However the protest was also continuing, despite the attack. Ms Anoma Fonseka, wife of Gen Fonseka, and JVP senior members Vijitha Herath, Lal kantha, and Ajith Kumara were among those present.

A mini war broke out in the Galle town a short while ago as police used teargas and later baton charged a group on DNA members who were staging a protest in the area demanding the release of General Sarath Fonseka.
Democratic National Alliance (DNA) members Anoma Fonseka, Vijitha Herath, Arjuna Ranatunga and several others who participated in the protest were among those hit by teargas.
