During the long journey of sansara you can have any form of life, they may be visible like most of the animals, invisible like Pretha and Devas, and microscopic. They may be occupying different environments also.

Buddha once said throughout this sansara you cannot find any being that had not been ur wife, ur mother, ur brother, ur sister or ur father. Sansara is as longer as that.
