I was not there when you have posted something for a reply of mine - so thought of replying now
machan (or sis) when you are reading something try to understand not just the words but the meaning made by those word combination:cool:

So my point in this thread & in my posts were - we must learn to appreciate our history, our historical heroes before we are appreciating any alienated things. so this topic started by MR.PERERA with two different descriptions on two different groups (SL historical heroes & some western comic heroes) but directed toward a common problem, the problem he was stressing was ( I guess) that our (society) failure on admiring SL history over some popular society trends - & I do believe that the lack of proper system to encourage our children's knowledge as well as interest in our history and overwhelming westernization has a direct negative effect for this.
earlier in 1920,30,40,50,60,70s most of SL children had a good taste on historical stories & they did have a soundness of our history as well as they loved it. even in those 60s 70s these super mans were there many SL had the opportunity to read those and enjoyed yet they had the ability to admire our own heroes as well. its because they knew the different between comic heroes & Our own historical heroes. & they could do so, only because they were thorough with both these areas.
but what has happening now is just admiring fantasies without at-least a minute respect towards our history. Its because current generation was not taught well about our history but only about comics, western gadgets etc - I never say these are bad or we should not let our children to enjoy those but what I'm saying is, the parents , education sys, media etc all must give at least the same priority to penetrate our own history into children's mind.
You know what will happen if this system continues, definitely there will be a community which knows all the kin & kith of these comic heroes,holly/bolly stars, a2z of all the sophisticates but not our own history!
I wonder how many of the EK, really knows about our history, funny historical stories etc - even many of the members who were shouting in this thread:dull:

    PS.
you said dear, "i dont think you could find any kid that prefer comics to history that's cos even kids know the difference"
but I think I do not have to said anything for that I guess!

Thanks Bro. :)

I appreciate this...and I was about to go sleep but considering the trouble you took, I'll reply this..even though I remember replying the same sorta post to another member.

I can't tell you anything about kids in this generation but the kids in our generation had good knowledge in history..they were taught in school or in daham paasala.or they had read ..it's not good enough to say that schools and adults have totally ignored subjects like history ...and we also had lots of cartoons and stuff back then too which we watch and would talk with friends about for hours like robin hood...we might never have had talk the same amount on our national heroes but that didn't mean they were of any less important..as a matter of fact those heroes had a special place in our hearts ..that was much bigger than the place fictional characters had...I still get goose bumps when i listen to songs like sunil edirisinghe's jathiya ran pahanak we..so do my friends they grew up with me ...

we not talking about national heroes as much as we would on fictional characters I think, in a way, show that the special respect we have for them...they are not a subject to discuss about when you are with friends smoking weed or doing any shit you do ..so we should not judge kids ..because things like patriotism can inflict very strong yet inexpressable feelings....so let the kids watch their cartoons I'm pretty sure they'll still have a nice place for national heroes.

all I'm saying is kids loving superheroes is, in no way a valid frame of reference to determine their thoughts on national heroes...and the insane comparison presented on this thread is utterly laughable..
