Best thread ever on EK malli.. Nice one. I'm english and i dream of living in Lanka. I'm so jealous that i'm not a Sri Lankan!

a lot of my friends in Lanka want to leave and come to England or go to Aus.. Why? Sri Lanka is the greatest country on earth.

my plan over the next 5 years is to build a house in SL then leave this stinking country once and for all. I hope that when that day comes, peace will have happened although the war does not frighten me.

i love sri lanka.. God, i wish i was lankan!

the track you are referring to is rules of a country, the infrastructure needed for development... people decide who build the tracks, people are like a locomotive.. a force running on the tracks, as long as the tracks are there people will reach their destination.. sooner or later...

But if no tracks are laid then.. sorry.com people will use other means to get there!

Its true SL people may not have the mind set, but why? they born without it? or is it created in them by the environment they live in?

So what u r saying is that we should wait until some really good politicians come to the power and develop this country

No country in these world has been developed by its politicians.
All the developed countries have reached there coz of the people of those countries.
So if SL should be developed its us not the politicians should do it

Yes People are the main factor in developing a country. But where would people go without a proper leadership?

Only the politicians can provide the leadership and a viable framework to the people so that they could follow it to develop the nation.

On the other hand, people have the power to choose who they want as their leader. Now tell me.. Atleast is it happening in a correct manner?

Corrupted politics plays a vital role in developing a nation.

This is where it gets tricky!

Look at Sri Lanka, when the World War II was going on and the rest of the world was on fire in 1940's, Sri Lanka didn't have any major problems... we infact did good! We were on track, heading for our destination!

Then what happen from 1981 up to now for 26 years? We were stripped off from 26 years of development.. and also because of so many other issues, now ANY govt. elected cannot develop the country over night,

because..

1. WAR
2. No proper long time plans were invested

Like they say "All roads lead to ROME"...... in Sri Lanka "All roads lead to Jafna"

So yes! I say! Politicians are the leaders of the country.. if they lead by example the rest will follow.. if they get divided into party politics and work solely to find a way to get to power by hook or by crook or to keep the power some how.... so will people...

Really good politicians are the ones that are less corrupted ones from the rest and has a proper vision & mission! Even we find our selves that kind of a leader, Sri Lanka will take some time to recover from this mess (WAR)

here gov giving some good things to people.....like medicare etc....
but as international students we dont get any thing basically...
no concession on public transpert....no medicare..nothing..but if u get PR..then.. u ll start to get benefits....hopefully i wish i could get it next year....
