CPC profiting from all petroleum products​

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) is gaining profits from selling petrol and diesel in the market with the recent price revision, according to statistics issued by Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara.

The minister revealed the fuel cost breakdown of CPC after the fuel price formula price revision for March and it showed Rs. 110.35 profited from a litre of Octane 95 Petrol, while a gain of Rs. 26.38 was recorded from selling a litre of Octane 92 Petrol.

Currently, the price of a litre of Octane 92 Petrol in the market is Rs. 400 and according to the formula based price per litre of 92 Petrol is Rs. 373.62 including all the costs and taxation. The formula based price per litre of 95 Petrol is Rs.399.65 and the current market price is Rs 510.

Also, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation is gaining profit of Rs.4.73 by selling a litre of Auto Diesel while Rs. 12.90 from a litre of Super Diesel.

The cost per litre of Auto Diesel is Rs. 400.27 and per the litre of Supper Diesel is Rs. 497.10.

Meanwhile, even after the CPC reduced the price of a litre of kerosene by Rs.50 with effect from March 1, the CPC gains Rs. 3.63 by selling a litre of Kerosene. The current retail price per litre of Kerosene is Rs. 305. According to the minister, the cost per litre of Kerosene is Rs. 301.37.(Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya)

I think both companies have different responsibilities. If the CEB can be separated into 3 parts, such as one that generates electricity, one that is responsible for transmission, and another that is the dealer, then dealer and transmission companies could be profitable.
