No it does not authorize Muslims to take lives......you can defend yourselves....which doesn't mean you have to kill a person....its self defense....like karate....
in karate...all those moves are used to disable a person...so that you can run away....to until the other person is too tired to fight....same in Islam....fight until someone stops....
it says clearly in the Quran....if someone tries to hurt you...a Muslim has been given SPECIAL right to defend himself/herself and his/her family....
SPECIAL rights because a Muslim is not allowed to hurt a person.....even by accident....
