Me too. Idle memory usage is less than 300MB. Btw, I don't use a desktop environment. Using a window manager instead.

Good for you. I do stuff need to do in terminal mainly using GNU tools kit and other utilities. But do you able to watch youtube in terminal or come to elakiri. To do that you need to run Xserver. Simply xserver is window system usually assigns to random tty in the system. Every desktop env is running xserver under the hood come with extra environmental specific tools like a file manager, system menu, internet browser so on. So as Linux power user need to understand which environment suite by looking at tools really matters to day to day usage with efficiency and less unwanted bloatware. The terminal is like a wizard stick we can do many queries and script from it. But today world some X11 environment is a must to be more practical. Working only in the terminal in a server environment I totally agree with you. I'm not ashamed to say I use GUI and the terminal even in the interview. By combining both can get best out of my work.

I use Xubuntu 18.04.5 LTS (Xfce)
No one can beat Ubuntu for online support out of all the linux in this world..........
