This is the first time these July 1958 recordings have been released in one package. Years ago some of this music was issued on the two volumes titled "Count On The Coast". There's about six hours of music featuring one of Basie's best groups. While Basie's early work in the late '30s is a high point because he had such great musicians, this '58 band, using Neal Hefti arrangements, is pretty hot sounding. And when you add Joe Williams' vocals (with Sammy Davis, Jr. on one track), this set is pretty near the top of great Basie live releases. ....
