Mahamevnawa Maha Viharaya was officially declared open on the 17th of May 2008. It is located at Uda Aparekka, Aparekka, Matara.
Mahamevnawa Maha Viharaya will primarily function as the centre for initial training and development of Ven Theros of Mahamevnawa Monastery, and also as the centre in spreading the Gautama Buddha Sasana in the Southern Region of Sri Lanka (earlier referred to as 'Ruhuna') mainly focusing on the spiritual development of people through the pure teachings of Gautama Samma Smbuddha.
The Mahamevnawa Maha Viharaya, of which the constructions are still being finalized, is a sole effort of Mr. Tissa Jinasena (owner/director of Loadstar Private Limited) who is a devoted upasaka of Gautama Buddha
PS : 25 pinwath upasakas became part of 'Arya Shrawaka Sangha' on the 17th May 2008, at a ceremony held at the Mahamevnawa Maha Viharaya, Aparekka. It is the first Dhamma ceremony held at the Mahamevnawa Maha Viharaya since its official opening in the morning on the same day.
