By the 14th of August 2008, nine (9) years will be completed for the Dhamma Service of Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery which was commenced with a vision of realizing/understanding Four Noble Truths - Caturàriya-Sacca within this Gautama Buddha Sasana itself.
In commomaration of the Ninth (9th) Anniversary, Most Venerable Kiribathgoda Gnanananda Thero has decided to declare the 12 months starting from August 2008, as the 'Mahamevnawe Buddhopastana Warshaya' (the year of attendance to the Lord Buddha).
What is really meant by attendance to the Lord Buddha?
'Yo bhikkhave, mam upatthaheyya, so gilànam upatthaheyya'
one who attends the sick - attends myself
(Civarakkhandhaka, Vinaya Pitake, Mahàvaggapàliyà)
Accordingly, the coming twelve months would be dedicated in attending the Sick and Elderly People in Need, etc. in order to practice real attendance to Lord Buddha, as our Sastrun Wahanse expected from His Srawaka (us).
