Kapila Chandrasena, current CEO Mihin Lanka, has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer Designate of SriLankan Airlines with immediate effect, taking over from current CEO Manoj Gunawardene whose term ends on July 31, the airline said on Thursday.
“Mr Chandrasena will assume the role of CEO from August 1 2011 from the current CEO -Mr Manoj Gunawardena whose term in office comes to an end on July 31 2011,” it said.
Travel industry sources said there was speculation that Mr Gunawardene would be appointed Sri Lanka’s next High Commissioner in the UK. The SriLankan CEO was not immediately available for clarification.
