Thousands of medical students staged a noisy demonstration outside the University Grants Commission (UGC) office earlier this afternoon to protest at the proposed private medical college at Malabe.
The protest march which began from the gates of the medical college in Colombo was made up with students from Ruhuna, Sri Jayewardenepura, Kelaniya, Peradeniya and Raja Rata.
The students also called on the relevant authorities not to compromise the free education system in the country.
