Sri Lanka's Hilton hotel plans two tonne 'Kottu roti' pancake mix
Oct 11, 2007 (LBO) - The Hilton hotel in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo will muster up to 40 chefs to make what's considered a record-breaking two-tonne 'kottu roti' pancake mix to mark its 21st anniversary.
The 2,100 kilo kottu will include 525 kilos of 'Gothamba Roti', the main flour-based pancake mix ingredient in a kottu.
Some 400 kilos of chicken, 500 kilos of vegetables and 7,000 eggs will also go in to the mix which will be fried and cut into small pieces
With added seasoning for taste, the kottu, which its promoters say may even be suited for a Guinness record, will yield 7,000 potions.
The event, part of the hotel's October promotions, with proceeds being donated to charity, will be held on October 21.
The hotel, which is owned by a Colombo listed company with state-ownership, is operated by the Hilton Hotels Corporation chain that has over 2,800 hotels in 76 countries.
The event is aimed at enhancing the experience of Sri Lankan culture among tourists, Hilton said in a statement.
The hotel has also planned to award 20 scholarships for students who have been unable to gain entry to the hospitality and leisure trade.
The scholarships will carry a six-month internship program at the hotel itself.
Hilton also plans to partner with the school for the deaf and blind to raise funds for the physically challenged students.
