You mean compile to the instruction set such as those private Firefox/Thunderbird builds?
you get the source code(the source trees/CVS...etc etc) and then you compile the source with all the options to optimize it to your box. its like u know what processor you have so you can compile the program to run on that exact processor, which will make it not run on other possessors... but at the same time it will be taking all the advantages of your processor, its instructions set, special registers... or what ever feature that it have...

eventually giving the best out of your hardware. every drop of it will be utilized.

I don't know what you meant by that. However, the newer releases of certain software comply with UAC and give a better experience overall.
simply most of the windows app programmers have poor coding discipline than there *nix counter parts.

haha... MS seems to think that everyone are n00bs like em! but thats not the truth. go to the MS web site and search for this hidden user vanu... that default admin login in XP remmebmer?

now its fixed yeah, but a lot of people(like toshiba added two accounts with some defult passwords to my laps XP installation!) do add hidden accounts when the box leaves the factory.... so its not secure at all!
Isn't your idea: "you configure your own stuff"?

I know what I have. You stay away from crack sites and p0rn sites, and 99.999% of virus infections won't happen. By using a reputed web mail like gmail, infections from emails won't happen either.

Yes exactly, 100% true, Well said ! This is how i also keep my pc clean

no what i am tiring to say is MS why are you so stupid? :D adding default user accounts with default passwords so that any ass can get in to your machine is really dumb! its not some pre configuration. its just for the ease of the support personnel.... i don't wanna loose ma security because some dumb ass is too lazy!

and windows allows this kinds of shit...

Those accounts are for configuration purposes. If Linux came preinstalled with PCs, they will also have such accounts
