No not at all. Even from benchmarks its not giving huge improvements from outdated hardware. But Mac users has nothing to do coz other hardware are not compatible with their machine. People stick to Mac because some of those Killer appz, stable OS and beautiful design of the computer.

You got G5 for 10,000. Thats a lucky deal!

any one saw that PC mag (or other mag nt 100%sure)interview with Bill gates? the reporter asked why M$ don't taking any serious legal actions against pirated copies in countries like China, and india.

anyway, I don't know u much about technical side of what u guys taking abt. just as a user I'm addicted to windows. The main reason is most of popular softwares r made for Windows & most popular company in field r parthers of microsoft. But most of these software can't be directly run on a linux platform or we've wait till someone finds a way run any .exe on linux. I heard that linux never gets hacked. How is it possible? I hope that commercial softwares r more proffesional & safer than open source. U may see in the readme file of some free software even it's open-source or not, there is a section called "Knowen Bugs". But if it was commercial, they don't try to reveal its bugs untill they r fixed.

With a source code which is open,
1. Anyone can find bugs & fix them as fast as possible.
2. Anyone can find bugs & make a way to break its securiy with them.

However there r no problem of me to use linux as a secondary OS.
But my lovely windows must be the first.

Nice thread.What I see is microsoft is always greedy for things.When somebody develops a good code,They just go to them ,offer them a serious amount and get all the proprietary rights to them.Next,add them into the OS as something.Vista got screwed at this point.XP had things in it but not too much from others.But vista was delayed so all the added code were put in to it and it got screwed.A bugging OS.The 7 comes in here.They built 7 from the scratch using that purchased code when ever applicable and made a single OS not a patched one from here and there.And then they have other tools as addons which you can install only if you want.I dont mind what they do since I get those OSes free.I hope they will give 7 free for us too

(you know? m$s market is in a agr8 danger. so they planed the long long (even for 50 years) plans. lyk make agreements with governments to gv their IT education with M$ (f*ck u bill. we suffer your A** W***** works) thats y we have M$ in school and the students gonna adict. (first they target the teachers.. the week point) luckyly this year the agreement with m$ and gov is over. and they want let gov to renew. and from 2011 we can c a FOSS based education and a developed country huraaah !!!!

HW vendors - Trying to catch the market. they consider about only the market. couz they dun have to worry about open source, couz there are NO open source or FREE (i mean GNU freedom, not the commercial one). at the users end there are no possibility of bug fixing, mods (miners are not considerable) or they dun care how wether they gonna learn or not...

so since 1978. the m$ targeted the HW vendors and made millions of long term agreements . so major vendors made there product for m$, then the upcoming and the miner Vendors did the same. that's how M$ took the control.

but today. main Vendors lyk. IBM, HP, Huawei, Sony(a bit) geforce, and others consider about the FOSS couz. nowadays they hv realized that the FOSSes are running a major role.and they had enough from the FACIST m$.hik. couz they are tring to control the vendors to sell their products. who wanna give his admin power to another comp? .

SW vendors = IF the majority of Hw are compatible with M$ and every ones have to buy them? what can the Soft developers do ?. NOTHING. couz they have to switch for the worlds trend...

but here we can see another story.also. couz software vendors not only targeting the users. (actually users) couz they are in a risky business. couz anytime anywhere, anyone could make a soft better than theirs . and it should be stooped . so they have to listen the ppls voice also. If millions of users gonna hv linux. instead of m$. what can they do? the only option is make a linux copy. lot of major software vendors do the same (ignore the ppl. who have made agreements with m$. ) ex Skype.

as linux users we don't care If its a linux version or win or even mac. couz we got alternatives. if we don't. we gonna make the actual software to run with us. thats tha FREEDOM OF USE . (i'm not talking about the normal PC users, they expect to do their works not to learn or hack) .. thats not good for Sw vendors market, and they all gonna gv us linux versions.

I heard abt it from one of gayan's threads. But I really don't know much abt linux coz I've not used a linux platform for years. I hope wine is a sort of emulator like PS2, N64... emulators. Can any just-released windows application be run on a linux platform?

its depend.. after some time (few weeks) it'll be defiantly run..

we can hack those softs and make them as a linux one. but its not good for normal users. so they have to wait. till some one found the solution. but others can hack them. as they wish..

ex. google chrome hadn't a linux installer. but i got the dev version and I couldn't wait anymore. so i made it running my self. in the next day. @ the net i saw millions of geeks did the same. .. thats the power of FOSS.. (out topic sorry)

so for the commercial versions we can hope. but custem made SWs are depend.. its on your hand

Why is this agreement between sl-gov. & ms gonna be over? I can agree that MS is mission to make us addicted for their product after read this. I'm intersting in using linux as once I said u in another of yours. But I'm afraid to do. I heard there is a way run on windows as a normal software. If u can please give me more information.
