The explanation is they are making a movie based on his crimes, Alfred Hitchcock was the directoir and he made the famous Psyco movie based on Ed Gein, For cinamatic purposes they intertwined two stories together, If you remeber Bates Motel tv show was insipired by Ed Gein too,

Ironically Ed Gein wasnt a rapist neither a nectrophiliac, not even a cannibal as the documnetray shows us, he was a sadist, he wanted his mothers approval for everything he did, Infact he wanted his mother with him always no matter how much he hated her,
