(3rd year internship
almost all jobs in SL are entry level bro.
What you mean by mid career ?
As I know to to to mid career you need to have a MSc.
It's more research than the front end career. You still doing coding jira/git/c++ stuff, but you will have to do studies and formalize research yoursef.
for a example software obfuscation, reverse engineering is the side that I had to do researches on.
If you want to get a Engineering credential then go for CE in UoM inside Engineering.
That's where in the case you want to apply directly to a 1st fortune 100 companies as an intern.
Otherwise you have to start from Associate level and complete your masters and when you are in your mid career you will be joining a good company like Intel,Microsoft, HP etc.
You can't compare a research with an engineer.
That's the main difference. Mid career is all about some research. Learning new things. etc etc.

I think he is targeting directly about the job market and the discipline. Not the research opportunities and way ahead.
So I think do the second shy as well and then enter into UoM engineering is the better choice for him.
The truth is other engineering BSc s are not accredited by WDC.
Not even Colombo CS , or BIT degree.
It's good for him because he/she can directly transfer the credentials go to a different country without much research, papers, ... like etc.
