The Sri Lankan navy today (28th August) arrested 147 Sri Lankans attempting to leave the country illegally for Australia in two fishing trawlers in the seas off Beruwala & Chilaw.
The Sri Lankan navy said the two groups arrested comprised of 123 Tamils & 24 Sinhalese.
It is illegal to leave the country from unauthorized ports. The maximum sentence is five years in prison.
