hey i just chk some prices in a shop.. and it says
512M 9600GT Gigabyte /ASUS = $189/189

512M 8800GT Gigabyte /ASUS = $234/234

how come the price of the 8800GT is higher than the 9600GT??

Because 8800GT is faster

I think you can go for a 8500GT or something (not sure about SL pricing)!! But you wont be able to play Crysis at smoothly with all the detail, to play Crysis at least a bit better you'll need a 8800GT or least 9600GT which I think over your budget!

i finished crysis all medium and AA2x on my 8500GT-512MB inno3d vga

but it was like Rs.15000

You missed the real Crysis. I also played a lot of option at Very High but with the lack of SM3 on mine, it didnt' look great!

1GB won't do much difference though. 8800GT 512 would be enough...

that also not in the happening list....but after my A/L im gonna ask for a 9800GT[or more better 1 in 2010] and laptop

i think in that time they will buy me,and also these days im not playing any games,so 8500GT-512MB is enough for normal vista desktop using

But there are so many new games and most of them will deliver best graphics on a card like 8600GT. I played call of duty 4 with my 8500 GT and performance and the quality was great!!!!

That's why you have to buy what works for you. For 1280*1024, 88GT or even 96GT will do. 1600*1200/1650*1050 will require a 8800GTS/9800GTX. 1920x1200 or higher will need multiGPU setups.
