My PC had 2 chips of 1 GB DDR2 [total 2GB] RAM when i was buing it, yasterday i just added 2 GB single memory chip to my pc, but it is showing only 3578 GB of RAM only, can any one tell me why it is showing less memory

This Because of 32bit Operating System.. you have to move to 64bit OS .. or Install Vista Service Pack 1 (You can see 4Gb but Cant Use)

um.. 32bit OS should show full 4GB RAM but it cannot use more than that. To use more than 4GB RAM you need a 64 bit OS (on a 64 bit platform).

In this case, its more than likely that the missing 512mb is shared for video memory.
