You are assigned to design a network for a university named NSCS located at Homagama.
NSCS has two marketing offices at remote locations one at Colombo 7 and another at Kandy.
The scope of the design includes the internal networks of University premises, branches as
well as WAN links connecting 3 LAN networks together. Since the management of NSCS
wishes to have full control over the ICT facilities, one central connection to the Internet will be
used, and it is to be shared between the main campus and the two marketing offices.
Following same strategy, ICT services should be hosted in the main university campus and
services should be made available for marketing offices as required through the
interconnecting WAN links.
The university consists of two faculties, namely School of Computing and School of Business,
and an administration division. The two faculties and the administration division located in
three separate buildings. It has been already identified that each building should be networked
as separate LAN.
School of Computing has six computer labs having 50 PCs and 2 computer labs having 20
PCs. It has 15 lecturer rooms and 5 head of department rooms. Also there is a program admin
office which has 7 PCs and a networked printer. The dean’s office has 10 PCs and a networked
printer.
School of Business has two computer labs having 50 PCs. It has 23 lecturer rooms and 7
HOD rooms. Also there is a program office which has 10 Pcs and a networked printer. Dean’s
office has 12 Pcs and a networked printer.
Administration division has six subdivisions, examinations, library, finance, HR, maintenance
and marketing. Each subdivision has 25 PCs. Two marketing offices at Colombo and Kandy
each have 10 Pcs and only marketing staff is using them.
