    2012 Suzuki Swift Sport Automatic

    2012_suzuki_swift_sport_cvt_automatic_road_test_review_03c_1-0611-450x240.jpg

When the new Suzuki Swift Sport arrived in Australia three months ago, The Motor Report office was a-buzz with enthusiasm for this little hatch.

Here was a car that sacrificed none of the standard Swift’s practicality, but with a Sport badge that enhanced an already enticing handling package. We’d run it on both road and track and were happy to sing its praises. (See all Swift Sport reviews.)

At the time there were no automatic variants on hand.

With Suzuki predicting that 70 percent of Swift Sport buyers would opt for the automatic CVT (continuously variable transmission), we couldn’t help but wonder if everything we liked about the six-speed manual model would be present in the auto version.

    2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo

    2013-hyundai-veloster-tur-2_600x0w.jpg

The 2012 Hyundai Veloster made its debut at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show and it warmed our hearts in terms of looks, but its 138 HP leaking out of the Gamma 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine chilled us to the bone. Shouldn’t a "sports car" have a little more push that that? Hyundai’s answer to that question came to the 2012 Detroit Auto Show when they unveiled the new Veloster Turbo - a model powered by a new 1.6-liter turbocharged-gasoline direct injection engine that delivers a total of 201 HP.

Next to a more powerful engine, the new Veloster Turbo will be distinguished by a bigger, bolder hexagonal front grille, sculpted side skirts, and new dynamic rear bumper with prominent diffuser vents. The car sits on a new set of 18" gray wheels with chrome inserts. For the interior, Hyundai has added full leather seats with the word "Turbo" stitched into the seatbacks and an exclusive Supervision Cluster that offers the driver information in a larger, clearer, and more interactive format.

UPDATE 06/04/2012: Despite previous rumors, the Veloster Turbo won’t be priced under $20k. Hyundai has announced today prices for the new Veloster Turbo: $21,950 for the Veloster Turbo equipped with a 6-Speed Manual Transmission and $22,950 for the 6-Speed Automatic version.

    2013 Dodge Challenger

    2013-dodge-challenger-2-door-coupe-r-t-plus-front-exterior-view_100406953_l.jpg

With a design that looks, in part, like a Hot Wheels-influenced retake of a classic Mopar muscle car, today's Dodge Challenger is not only a faithful interpretation of an icon, with Hemi V-8 power under the hood; it's also a modern, comfortable touring coupe inside, with an independent suspension and modern tech features.

The 2013 Dodge Challenger definitely tries harder to be a loyal interpretation of the original muscle-car designs that inspired it--and appeal to aging Baby Boomers--and its retro-modern look somehow manages to span classy and cartoonish, without seriously alienating any age groups. The flat sheetmetal, classic long nose, and vivid color palette all channel the muscle cars of the Sixties and Seventies. SRT8 Challenger models cherry-pick some of the best, most aggressive details from muscle-car history and pack them all in, with deeper air dams, functional brake ducts, and options for a Ram air hood and various striping packages. Inside, the design isn't what you might expect; it's spare and modern (some with a LCD touch screen), and nearly an about-face to the exterior--to the degree that the available pistol-grip shifter can feel a little out of place.

    PRICE MSRP FROM $25,795
