The National Movement Against Terrorism (NMAT) has launched a country wide poster campaign condemning attempts to sabotage the anti-LTTE military campaign under cover of protesting against cost of living.
One poster says, "Let's defeat the treacherous attempt to protect Prabhakaran."
Another refers to World War II and exhorts patriotic citizens bear difficulties until the Tiger terrorists are defeated. This poster says:
"We ate bird feed during the World War which wasn't our war. If so are we going to think of our stomachs in our own war?"
Commenting on this NMAT media spokesman and lecturer Political Science Faculty, Sri Jayewardenepura University Anuruddha Pradeep Perera told SinhalaNet that the country is currently facing decisive people's war unlike the white man's war during which our people at bird feed (bajiri). During that conflict - World war II (1939-1945) - the British people made sacrifices to defend their land against the German Nazis.
Likewise the outcome of Sri Lanka 's current internal war will decide our younger generation's future, he said. Hence we should give our fullest support to our soldiers, sailors and airmen who are sacrificing their lives to defend our motherland's sovereignty and territorial integrity from the Tamil Tiger separatist terrorists. We should defeat all attempts to sabotage the military effort under cover of criticizing the cost of living and corruption.
