Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka yesterday told Parliament that the problem created regarding the carrying of Major General Janaka Perera’s remains by Air was due to disregarding the instructions provided by the Air Force Commander. The Prime Minister said that UNP Secretary General Tissa Aththanayaka spoke to him yesterday regarding the making of arrangements to carry the remains of Major General Perera by air to Anuradhapura, “I said I would talk to the Air Force Chief”. The Air Force Chief agreed to make arrangements. Thereafter I told UNP MP Tissa Aththanayaka to deal with the Air Force Chief and make arrangements.

The Prime Minister said the Air Force Commander informed him that the UNP has not followed the necessary guidelines given by the Air Force. The Air Force Commander has told the UNP to hand over the remains to the Air Force from the funeral parlour due to some security arrangements. However the remains had been brought to the Ratmalana Air Force camp without following these instructions given by the Air Force. Therefore some problems had arisen regarding this.

The Prime Minister said that he really wanted to help. But he was blamed by the Opposition regarding this incident. “However, if we have done some mistake I’m ready to accept the blame. But this situation was created unnecessarily due to the disregarding of instructions provided by the Air Force Chief.

What's the respect of travelling by a helicopter?

He deserves respect from the "people" on the road... Not the angels in the sky :D

Think about the brighter side.. People can show their respect on the roads.. Which they can't if transported by air.

dis wasnt u meant u said its a dead body also u said wasting of money now u amend da reply according to ma quiz dats clearly indicates how well u wipe government asses

Janaka Perera was a former High ranking officer in SL Army, who became the chief of staff finally afaicr.

If we consider on that basis, then who are the former army personnel who got clearance to transport their cortege? I think nobody yet.. So on the first place, I don't see a reason why someone should spend Sri Lankan tax payers money to transport a dead body.

I saw this comment made by Prime Minister just now

    http://www.itn.lk/news_04_20081008.html

Even though Janaka Perera did so many good things to the country, he is again just another citizen of Sri Lanka. I think UNP organisers are just trying to sling some more mud on the government over his dead body... If his body can talk, I'm pretty sure he will tell not to airlift and to use normal means of transport.

On the other hand, if Mahinda really wants to show his grattitude, then he should have allowed Janaka's body to airlift despite every other arguement. (Like he did to Mervin when he met with anaccident) Again someone can argue saying Mervin was a minister but Janaka Perera is not, and Mervin was airlifted because of his personal security etc. Maybe true.

So there are never ending possibilities.

But the bottomline is, Janaka Perera died.... Nobody knows who killed him. And nobody tries to figuere it out even. UNP supporters say it was a setup by the GOSL. and others say its another LTTE act. But nobody knows the truth other than Mahinda and Prabha.

As for the first highlighted part..

Well.. Like EVERYDAY !! .. do you think they stick a stamp on dead soldiers head and POST them from north back to Colombo ? .. NO.. they DO send it by air.

    For the second highlighted part.

Janaka Perera was indeed selected as a provincial minister after the last elections (up to my knowledge).. so politically they are almost of the same grounds with Mervin except been in different parties.

So I presume, the point you made there was Mervin's thumb splinter was more a security threat to the nation than paying the last due respect for a war veteran?

Rest of what X-pert has written... I would classify them as complete BS ! :nerd:

Dead body is a dead body. wasting money is wasting money :) I didn't amend my reply in anyway by answering to you.

Now you tried to talk about respect, but when I showed you how to get respect, you're telling I'm wiping GOSL's asses

U maybe a die hard UNP supporter, but just for your information.. I neither belong to a party nor support any party.

All are fools trying to earn some money and people like you have been fooled by them. Think about what you talk and reply to the post appropriately.

There is a fine line between transporting dead bodies of brave soldiers who died in the battle field from the battle field to Colombo and transporting Janaka Perera's body from Colombo to where he died.

Nope. What I pointed was the difference between transporting a minister who is alive and transporting a dead body. I was referring to their personal security (even though the bugger should be burnt alive)

I didn't mean to drag politics with a dead body. But you're the one who shouted at me saying that I'm a GOSL arse wiper like you.

For me, what is bad is bad. what's good is good. That's irrespective of the colour. If you read my first reply in this thread without wearing your UNP glasses, you will see what I have told.

(Sorry, but I can't understand half of what you're saying mate. correct words and proper punctuations will help me I guess.. I'm not used to short hand :) )
