If you compare 5800 vs iPhone 3G (not the new 3GS) then 5800 wins hands down.5800 Camera is not very good compared to some of the other Nokia N series phones, but it is better than the iPhone 3G!

IMO software for Palm OS are not as wide spread as Symbian or iPhoneOS. Personally I find lot of flexibility with Symbian, there are enough applications to do just about anything; maybe the numbers are bigger for Apple, but most of them are useless.

true its not wide as symbian but it had lot more facilities that above to .i phone3gs better than that,but palm pre better that i phone 3g

I like the fact that it has a slide out physical QWERTY keyboard, but I dont know about the battery time , music player , or the camera quality. Seems like it doesnt support video recording . Can't really comment on Palm Pre, but I don't think its better than a Nokia 5800.

At 5800's price point I hardly think there is anything better (another touch screen smart phone that is..).
