Pakistan tour to Australia 09-10!
Before the team was leaving Pakistan, PCB ensured that after a bad performance against New Zealand and Srilanka, Pakistan will get something to cheer from the tour to Australia. 3 different squads were send for 3 different versions of game! PCB also ensured that they were sending the players with new strategy.
Tour started with Tests. 1st test was clearly taken by Australia with much less fight put up by Pakistan due to lose fielding and batting.
2nd test by Pakistan's dominating performance till day3 and then Australia made one of the best bounce back in history to take the match on their side. Again the batting and fielding let the 1st victory in years against Australia on their home ground. 3rd test again went well for Australia and they made a 3-0 victory in test series!
Then came ODI's with a new hope. 1st match brought some joy as Pakistan put a good fight against Australia. Then a sudden drop back in batting performance in 3 consecutive matches. 5th match came with controversies, Yousuf had a fight with the coaches in morning and refused to play and so Afridi was leading the team. He made a good impression and the team certainly looked charged up. People thought that he might be a new captain in ODI's too but his foolish ball tampering act caught him and a ban for 2 T-20 matches.
One T-20 still left in tour! Can Pakistan grab a traditional win? They lost ODI and test series to kiwis but won the T-20s in 2009...Same happened in Dubai when Pakistan lost the ODI series to Australia and won the T-20. Or it would be a complete clean sweep? Its still to be seen.
What happened to those 2 squads and new strategies? Or Pakistan Cricket has lost its touch and professionalism? After the Inzamam's retirement nobody has been given much time to remain as a captain!
Malik was placed as a captain. He won the series in Dubai against Srilanka without the presence of any coach (he himself was coach and captain) but then 2 series being lost and he was replaced by Younis! He won the T-20 cup but then lost to Srilanka, Australia and NewZealand and then Champions Trophy! Pakistanis accused him of match fixing (including me! :ashamed) but he wasn't and so he gave his captaincy away! Yousuf was given captaincy and we can see results now
In my view, Malik was a good choice but Younis was more better than him or Yousuf! He had more command on team and while Yousuf don't seems to have any, when seen in the field! Yousuf made too obvious mistakes in this series like insensible field placements, not introducing bowlers on right time! In 2nd test match when Pakistan had upper hand in match and Australia had a lead of only 80 runs and Siddle along with M.Hussey was on pitch he introduced fast bowlers with placing 5 fielders on boundary. Both batsmen carried the score by taking singles and when Kaneria was introduced Yousuf insisted on leaving the fielders on boundary! It went on till Kaneria insisted on his choice, 1st over of attacking field and Siddle was send back! In ODIs Aamer's and Asif didn't played along each other because in 1 match Asif was out with minor injury and in other matches Aamer was out with injury. In these matches Yousuf went on to complete the quota of Aamer and Asif early on in the match by giving 7 overs in start and then 3 overs between 35-43rd over! In powerplays, Iftikhar or Rana was introduced and so Aussies would easily carry the score With availability of 7 bowlers in match he used just 3 seamers and 2 spinners in the matches while Malik and F.Alam not given overs! These were the clear mistakes
Now its a question that what can be done for improving the team's performance? Pakistan could not stay in front with the Australia's bowling attack of Siddle, McKay and Bollinger then what they would have done if Bracken, Lee and Jhonson would have been present? Jhonson was present in only 2 matches I think so in matches he wasn't there, Ryan Harris was included.
There's a need of batting coach too Waqar is good as bowling coach and so they should look for a better coach in batting! Younis and Yousuf should not be in ODI team any more! Razzaq should be called back and given another chance along with Misbah! Umar Akmal should be now send at one down or two down position. He has showed his ability of playing in pressure at 5th-6th position when Pakistan is 6 down at score of 80 to 150 He should be given more chance and time to play and also F.Alam. These 2 batsmen were only successful in ODI's of this series Change the selection committee Btw, the chairman of selection committee has already given his resignation. Fielding should be improved and Yousuf should not be captain anymore.
But then, who would be? Younis and Malik refused to take it again ever. Afridi when was on verge to be a good captain and a good player to lead the team, showed his negative side of his aggressive mind! Now Afridi should be given another chance to lead the team for sometime andd maybe we can see a change!
