OC the i7 920 to 3.2GHZ and you will beat the i7940 (i7940 is a slightly higher clocked 920)
But the costs for other stuff like the motherboard and RAM for i7 is very high! :D

The i7 920 is not worth it and I personally think its a stupid decision. 940 should be the minimum.

Anyway, I personally prefer Intel. The 965 will pwn all of those and the unlocked multiplier will deliver even more pwnage.

BUT, I'm an Intel fanboy :P.

Major props to AMD for making such an awesome processor though, good to see them not being considered a joke in the CPU market any more.

i saw those two processors last week in UK shop.

I checked personally & i think AMD is the best choice compared to price/performance. In some games/applications AMD & Intel difference is nearly 20%(CPU performance only/ sometimes AMD outperform intel) however reasonable price overshadow intel.

    letz say it like this

    You can buy X4 940 processor + 2 nVIDIA GX280 or ATI HD4870 Crossfire for £800-£950

    but Intel i7 + 2 nVIDIA GX280 or ATI HD4870 Crossfire costs £1400-£1550

So you can see AMD solution is much cheaper & with crossfire or Sli you can play any modern game @ full HD for reasonable price.

When it comes to the video encoding ATI hardware encoder perform better than intel CPU & nVIDIA hardware encoder ,so basically AMD is the best choice for any gamer or video editor

Ermm, Who considered AMD is a Joke, ok maybe u did cuz u don't seem to know a nickle about what ur talking of, neither AMD or Intel is a Joke, the two Companies have to exist for us to take the maximum Benefits of the Price : Performance ratio, id be much happy if VIA come up with some killer processor, more competiton the Better.

If u trying to play upcomming high end games in high resolution u should go fo a phenom II
U can see how Ci7 getting down in high resolution gaming:no:
And other thing is price. If u r going to X58 u hav to spend more money for DDR3 Trichannel, Expensive X58 chipset , Expensive Mainboard & other stuff:baffled:
U can buy AM2+ mainboard abt $130 with 790GX\FX maxa chipset
so why u spend ur extra money for ur 4870X2 or 295 graphic card:rolleyes:
U r so lucky to live in Aus....cuz in SL there will be Phenom II when Phenom III to be launch:( :P

Anyway, different websites are giving different results for both CPUs. Sometimes the Core i7 beats the crap out them all. Sometimes an old Core 2 Quad comes and ruins the whole story!
