Depends on how you are going to use it.

Pros of 5800 XM

• Better for multimedia : 35hrs of Music playback time and better audio quality due to the dedicated audio processing chip. TV out
• Bigger high resolution touch screen
• Slightly better camera (but difference is marginal at best)
• New OS

Pros of E71

• Hardware QWERTY keyboard is convenient for texting and emails
• SIP (Voip) support

i also have to say the same thing "depends on what you expect it to do and what you want to do with the phone" but as a person who has used both the phones i would recommend you do go for the E71.

reason:-

E71 - executive series phone which has a stable OS
very convenient
easy to msg (if a high end sms person)
the camera is average since executive series phone
interface gives a win 95/98 OS feeling

5800xm - the touch screen is one of the WORST iv ever seen
and it has sm software probs as well
well an average phone as there are way more better touch screen phone

Yeah, touch screen is not the best, I mean you cant compare it with an iPhone, but it is not bad at all. It is quite responsive, when you know how to use it properly.
True, there are better touch screen phones out there, but nothing comes close to the features/price ratio of 5800.
