My next HD would be a Seagate, I already have good experience with a Seagate(4+ yrs) !
Sequential speed alone doesn't speak of the speed of the hard disk. Practical applications may not be benefited by it. I believe you should check the reviews before you buy a hard disk. However, Seagate is the market leader, and they offered two undisputed qualities: silence and reliability. And guess what? Maxtor is owned by Seagate!

Check this out: Maxtor's DiamondMax 11 hard drive
This is about the Maxtor DiamondMax 11. But in the comparisons, they have used quite a few hard drives. You can see the plus points of Seagate drives. You'll see that the Seagate drives doesn't perform as fast as some of the other drives, for example the DiamondMax 10. The high sequential read speed doesn't necessarily mean the drive is fast.

They are reliable. TBH, I have (had) Seagate, Maxtor, Samsung and Quantum Fireball drives and none of them have failed! So, I think the reliability has something to do with the luck

Great drive with a rubber cover and all. 1-2 year back I bought a WD 40 GB a little worked out one, it worked ok sometime, then started troubling, now doesnt work at all after 2-3mins from boot.
