This is suposedly a question for 8 year olds in Singapore. The two scales show the weights of the cubes & spheres.
Find the weight of a sphere.

PS: 8 year olds haven't possibly got a knowledge about algebra. So can you think how a child could solve this?

To solve the pattern in the given equations, let's analyze the provided equations:

    1. \(102756832 = 4\)
    2. \(134652299 = 3\)
    3. \(199375211 = 2\)
    4. \(101010108 = 6\)
    5. \(111111111 = 0\)
    6. \(652299000 = 6\)

Observing the results, we can notice that they seem to relate to the number of closed loops or enclosed areas in the digits of each number. Here's a breakdown:

    - **Digit 0** has 1 enclosed area.
    - **Digit 1** has 0 enclosed areas.
    - **Digit 2** has 0 enclosed areas.
    - **Digit 3** has 0 enclosed areas.
    - **Digit 4** has 1 enclosed area.
    - **Digit 5** has 0 enclosed areas.
    - **Digit 6** has 1 enclosed area.
    - **Digit 7** has 0 enclosed areas.
    - **Digit 8** has 2 enclosed areas.
    - **Digit 9** has 1 enclosed area.

Let's apply this idea to each given number:

    1. **102756832**
    - 1: 0 enclosed areas
    - 0: 1 enclosed area
    - 2: 0 enclosed areas
    - 7: 0 enclosed areas
    - 5: 0 enclosed areas
    - 6: 1 enclosed area
    - 8: 2 enclosed areas
    - 3: 0 enclosed areas
    - 2: 0 enclosed areas
    - Total enclosed areas: 1 + 1 + 2 = 4 (Matches)

    2. **134652299**
    - 1: 0 enclosed areas
    - 3: 0 enclosed areas
    - 4: 1 enclosed area
    - 6: 1 enclosed area
    - 5: 0 enclosed areas
    - 2: 0 enclosed areas
    - 2: 0 enclosed areas
    - 9: 1 enclosed area
    - 9: 1 enclosed area
    - Total enclosed areas: 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 4 (However, the answer given is 3, suggesting a possible typo or discrepancy in the pattern.)

    3. **199375211**
    - 1: 0 enclosed areas
    - 9: 1 enclosed area
    - 9: 1 enclosed area
    - 3: 0 enclosed areas
    - 7: 0 enclosed areas
    - 5: 0 enclosed areas
    - 2: 0 enclosed areas
    - 1: 0 enclosed areas
    - 1: 0 enclosed areas
    - Total enclosed areas: 1 + 1 = 2 (Matches)

    4. **101010108**
    - 1: 0 enclosed areas
    - 0: 1 enclosed area
    - 1: 0 enclosed areas
    - 0: 1 enclosed area
    - 1: 0 enclosed areas
    - 0: 1 enclosed area
    - 1: 0 enclosed areas
    - 0: 1 enclosed area
    - 8: 2 enclosed areas
    - Total enclosed areas: 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 2 = 6 (Matches)

    5. **111111111**
    - 1: 0 enclosed areas (repeated 9 times)
    - Total enclosed areas: 0 (Matches)

    6. **652299000**
    - 6: 1 enclosed area
    - 5: 0 enclosed areas
    - 2: 0 enclosed areas
    - 2: 0 enclosed areas
    - 9: 1 enclosed area
    - 9: 1 enclosed area
    - 0: 1 enclosed area
    - 0: 1 enclosed area
    - 0: 1 enclosed area
    - Total enclosed areas: 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 6 (Matches)

Now, applying this pattern to **831993101**:

    - 8: 2 enclosed areas
    - 3: 0 enclosed areas
    - 1: 0 enclosed areas
    - 9: 1 enclosed area
    - 9: 1 enclosed area
    - 3: 0 enclosed areas
    - 1: 0 enclosed areas
    - 0: 1 enclosed area
    - 1: 0 enclosed areas

    Total enclosed areas: 2 + 1 + 1 + 1 = 5

    So, \(831993101 = 5\).

Answer is Correct, but the enclosure area should be without corners like circles or oval shapes. ChatGPT missed that. Simply just count the circles.
This was in IESL news paper very long time ago, like 10-15 years ago, when Chathpt was not available. An Olympiad math problem I think.🙂
