Fonseka files FR applications against state media

The Common candidate of the opposition, General Saratha Fonseka today filed three fundamental rights applications against state media institutions for their alleged misuse of public media.
General Sarath Fonseka challenged the state run electronic media institutions Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) and Independent Television Network (ITN) and print media institutions Associate Newspapers of Ceylon Limited (ANCL) for using the media partially by supporting President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the forthcoming Presidential Election and defaming the opposition.

That's it Sir. Take on the Bro & Co headlong as you did the Tigers. There was no one courageous enough to take them on as IGP, AG and State Media thought they can forever ride roughshod over us. Even if you lose, at least let the world know that you fought valiantly for us - the Sri Lankans, who have been ruthlessly milked dry and trampled. These are independent entities and hope the AG will not appear free with taxpayers footing the bill.

It would also help if he asked the court to ascertain if the people holding such posts are competent to do so and check if public cash is being syphoned off for election purposes causing loss to the people like non payment of bills and ask the court to correct these irregularities. Lalith Wije

Yes, it is obvious that state media supporting directly and indirectly to one candidate. Good to see that some action has been taken on this issue. Hope the opposition will get a reasonable hearing.

The Judges of the Supreme Court will have to see that Justice is done and appears to be done. We respect the Judges of the highest court. The public funds cannot be used in this manner

Very unfortunately even judges rely on Rajapakshas for their verdicts, it is not use going to court under these government, if not Thissanayagam would not have got 20 years of jail whereas many hardcore criminals freely roaming.

I am sure the Judges of the Supreme Court watch the Rupavahini, ITN Eye Channels daily and all other programs telecast by them, also read the Lake House News papers. So there is no other evidence is required, to make an order and Suggest a very independent competent Authority is appointed for him to decide on balance news reporting. Public will salute you
