dialog sells modems to customers...
they unlock and use with other networks...
tell total international bandwidth of dialog and slt if you can...
nathuwa umbage oluwe thiyana ewa facts vidihata danna epa...

SLT has a lager bandwidth. They provides ADSL connections. They have started it long time ago than 3G is launched. They uses wired networks. that is why they want such a big bandwidth. It does not implies that bandwidth for HSDPA of Mobitel is higher. I personally happy with SLT's business strategies. But not Mobitel.

the whole argument is baseless. sri lanka is the leading country in terms of both the technology and tariff in the whole region and all this happened thanks to mobitel. true they had the backing of slt but before that there was a huge monopoly by Dialog and the tariffs were unusually high. mobitel took the industry on the right track.

and for those of you who say huawei is bad take a look at these.

In 2005, Huawei was selected by BT as a preferred supplier of communications equipment for BT’s 21CN network strategy.

In the same year, Huawei signed a Global Framework Agreement with Vodafone for mobile network infrastructure.

In 2006, Motorola signed a dealhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huawei#cite_note-14 with Huawei where Motorola distributes and installs Huawei's 3G equipment.

On November 15 (2006), Huawei signed a deal]worth 30 million euros (38.4 million USD) with German operator Versatel Holding Deutschland GmbH.

Huawei will build a fibre-optic communication network based on Internet protocol (IP) for Versatel, Germany's third largest fixed-line operator.

On February 1 (2007), Forbes reported that France Telecom has selected Huawei to supply UMTS mobile equipment for its third generation network.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huawei#cite_note-16

Huawei replaced Alcatel/Motorola in Romania, and Nortel in Belgium.

Vodafone awarded Huawei 2007 Global Supplier Award for Outstanding Performance in June, 2007.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huawei#cite_note-17
In 2007, Huawei became the 4th largest patent applicant in the world after Matsushita, Philips Electronics and Siemens with 1,365 applications.[24]

It recorded salesof 12,56 billion USD (an increase of 49% from 2006) for the year, which makes it the fifth largest telecommunication company in the world in terms of revenue after Cisco, Ericsson, Alcatel-Lucent, and Nokia Siemens Networks. [25]

Huawei Technologies was included in the World's Most Respected 200 Companies list compiled by Forbes magazine in May 2007,[26] one of the six from telecom industry.

In December 2008, BusinessWeek magazine puts Huawei at number 3 after AppleGoogle in their first annual list of 'The World's Most Influential Companies' in collaboration with an advisory board of 14 academics, consultants, and industry leaders worldwide and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huawei#cite_note-26

Actual situation is really different from that. By reducing rates, Profits of Phone Companies directly reduced. Then they wont get enough profits to expand and develop their networks. As low cost solutions are being taken reliability of service gone down. In early time GSM(2G) has launched telecom operators expanded their networks very faster and they have taken quality equipments for their networks.

But sometime after Mobitel came into play, They reduced rates instantly with cheaper solutions(Huawei : products are not reliable). Then others couldn't sell their SIMs at their rates. So they also had to reduce rates. reducing rates means cutting off profit. So others also had to stop expanding of their network and had to go to cheaper solutions with reducing quality of their network.

    Results of this phenomena are

    • Cutting jobs of people who are working in telecommunication industry
    • Sri Lankans are experiencing the effects of low reliable telecommunication network service.
    • Time taken to spread new technologies(3G and 3.5G at this moment) is too longer
    • poor coverage in rural areas
    • Marketing is being the first thing have to consider other than quality of service or technology (That is why such a big number of advertisements we are seen daily on TV etc. So they spent their money for advertising not for network)
    • researching and knowledge development in telecommunication goes down on our country.
    • Recent job cut in telecommunication industry and new people wouldn't be able to come to industry (people who passing out from universities, technical colleges)
Remember, who should responsible for creating these defects in telecommunication industry in Sri Lanka?

    Mobitel

That is why still we are experiencing slower speeds of internet connections for our homes while other countries going forward.

    Think about this carefully.

Don't promote such companies who destroy our industries even they are Sri Lankans.

Tigo, Dialog always tried to gave us good quality of service, good salaries for employees, helped universities to research on new technologies etc.

Other hand Quality telecommunication vendors such as Ericsson, Alcatel are being shrink in their action. So technology flow into our country being disturbed. Chinese companies (Huawei) are conquering our industries. If Mobitel wasn't there we may have a chance to experience high speed internet connections, 3G in everywhere, good job potential in telecom industry and many more.

So this is the sad full real situation. I am loving my country and who try to built up my country. Don't think that I am boasting to promote foreign companies. Thank you if you read this essay completely.

From this post quoted above I got that you have still didn't got my argument correctly. In simply I am saying that sudden degradations of rates of Mobitel affected whole telecommunication industry in Sri Lanka badly. They created culture of marketing oriented business in Sri Lanka. And I am saying that it is a very bad fact to development of telecom industry in Sri Lanka.
