Revenue licences for motor vehicles in the southern province will be issued though internet from next year.

Chief Minister Shan Wijelal de Silva said all facilities including computers and printers were provided to the Divisional Secretariats in the Galle, Matara and Hambantota districts to implement the plan.

He said the programme was introduced in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Information Technology Institute.

The Chief Minister said the owners of motor vehicles in any Divisional Secretariat in the province would be able to obtain or renew the licences through the internet easier and quicker without wasting their time.

He said under the new scheme one could obtain his licence without calling over at the Divisional Secretariat. He said the procedure was simple and the owner of the vehicle should furnish the details through internet and make payment with the credit card.

However the old system of issuing revenue licences over the counter would continue. (D.G.Sugathapala)

It's not rocket science or a pilot project. Why not the whole Island...

Now Lamborghini can get revenue license over the net
obviously, not enough resources to go island wide from the get go.
Your comments show that while you understand this perfectly well, you're just looking for an excuse to shout at the government.

I'm not shouting or blaming anyone or any government, I'm just pointing.. Why Southern, If it all about practicality, Choose Gampaha, Colombo or Kandy.. These district have more Internet users than Galle.. I really appreciate this work but why keep it for smaller people to benefit while others struggling.. Its not fair or equal. Galle to Jaffna people should have same benefits specially when it involves Internet.

low internet usage is the reason its started there. with low number of users, its easy to debug and troubleshoot a system. Once its proven to be stable, it'll be deployed elsewhere as well.

If its that the case, Here the result, after months they will abandon this project stating no one using this service. But sadly to prove that they choose wrong district and wasted huge sum of tax payers money to issue few hundred license to prove that's useless. If they want better result should have been deploy this unit in more scale to attract more users. Like Colombo. No one willing to open a shop in Alaska because it will have low customer ques in checkouts.

issuing licenses is not the same as a retail store. They dont need to find a customer base for it. so that particular point is not valid.
