why not get a G33 chipset based mobo? They are better than the G31!

If you like a better graphical interface, go with Vista ultimate SP1(x86 or x64)
    OR
If you want performance go with Windows XP SP3(x86 or x64)

Remember not to make a lot of partitions, go with a maximum of 3.
keep 100GB for windows and divide the rest according to your needs.

machang it is depend on user

I assume you use this computer

You need use lot of tools for music editing and creations(resson,Cool pro) and You also a computer student there for you are struggle with programming tools also(VS 2008,JVM,and etc)

Therefore use Windows XP service pack 2with advance updates(I think you can find updates)

and Use Some good virus gard to protect you pc because you do not need to worry about ram

    Mh...Partitions
    20 GB for Windows

    50 GB for Entertainment works

and You can use other space for Education perpose

Do not forget to keep backup hard(portable)

    * assume u are not playing game in your machine

I agree with u. Vista is low in performance with onboard VGAs. Also u better check mboard can handle 4G ram. Sm boards can only handle 3.2G max.

    hmmmm, not bad! :)
you need x64 to support all 4GB properly
you need native x64 apps to get use of all 4GB
