Few cricket matches of the World Cup Cricket Tournament 2011 are to hold in Sri Lanka and cricket fans of neighboring countries and in Sri Lanka are longing for that day. Kheththarama, Pallekale and Suriyawewa Stadiums were proposed by the government for these matches. Kheththarama Grounds is the only international level ground amongst the three and the other two grounds are still under construction.
A team of officers of International Cricket Council visited Sri Lanka recently to examine the condition of the grounds. They have said that the tournament cannot be given to Sri Lanka if the construction of the stadiums is not completed within six months. Further they have pointed out that it is impossible to provide accommodation for the players around Suriyaewa. One Cricket Boss has promised to anchor a ship in the sea and to accompany the players to the ship to stay comfortably and it is said that the foreign specialists had a great laugh at this statement.
Critical situation lies at Keththarama Stadium. The convention of SLFP has caused critical damages to the place. If the tournament is going to be held the stadium has to be renovated and it costs Rs. 800 million. One of the officers of Sri Lanka Cricket Board said that the political displays of government not only harm cricket but also waste millions of rupees. He questions the reason for permitting political meetings at Kheththrama while the International Stadium of Galle is never being given at least for school cricket matches.
However Rs. 800 million is to destroy due to the convention of SLFP.Rs. 9 million of public money was used through National Youth Council, in order to organize this convention. Under the circumstances Sri Lanka is most likely going to miss the World Cup Cricket Tournament 2011
