Ten top schools in Sri Lanka will once again contest the 10th Singer SriLankan Sevens rugby championship schedule for kick off from today here at the Nittawela, Kandy from 1 30 p.m. onwards.
Defending champions Isipathana College are the favourite to retain the championship title after they clinched all island schools Sevens and Western Province Sevens recently.
Isipathana is B grouped with Dharmaraja and St. Sylvester’s and tipped to enter the quarter finals without problems.
Last year’s runner-up Kingswood, St. Peter’s and St. Anthony’s are the other strong contenders for the Cup title.
The tournament kicks off at 1.30 p.m. with a group “A” match between Kingswood and Nalanda followed by defending champions Isipathana confronting St. Sylvester’s in a group “B’ match at 1.50 pm.
Ten teams have been divided into four groups and play for the Cup, Plate and Bowl.
The participating teams are Kingswood, Wesley, Nalanda, Isipathana, Dharmaraja, St. Sylvester’s, Royal, St. Anthony’s, Ananda, St. Peter’s, St. Joseph’s and Vidyartha.
The finals of the schools tournament are scheduled to be played on Sunday along with the International tournament finals.
The international competition with 10 Asian countries starts tomorrow.
