Sending a mobile phone in the post

Hi

Has anyone got down a mobile phone from abroad like from ebay or any other online store through normal post or courier for their personal use into SL?...

I want to know if their are any issues at the customs, like duty's, etc... Please share your experiences if any..

Dude, suerly those buggers(customs) will charge you. By my personal experiance I know that, coz one time I sent some Dresses to my Gal, and they taxed me some Rs7000 for that. the reason they pointed it out was that its too expensive, when i FEDEX it, i had to put the value of the pkg. So think twice B4 u get it down...

Ya i know for sure they will charge. But wanted to know how much duty they charge for mobile phones. The customs website mentions duty to be around 10% or so. I guess if thats true its ok.

Anyone else who has got down a phone before ?

i dont think its 10 % dude! If the phone is $400...those bastards will charge 40 thousand bucks unless u tell the ebay person NOT to send the invoice with the package and when the SL customs ask the price say a cheap price.

ow mamath hithuwe eka tama. its not like your getting down 10 phones or something. if its just 1 phone and that also used then mostly shud be ok. but anyways must check with EMS or DHL to make sure.

Well its about 10% of the value... if they try to impose more duty ask them to refer to the HS code and argue with them.. Normally it wouldnt be a problem if your nice with them.... but 10% is right.. I paid 10%...

I think mobile phones are not allowed to b sent by post....

I once got 2 second hand phones (Nokia 1110i and 1100) through eBay, they cost me about Rs.2600 on ebay, but the idiots here didn't understand the fact that they were second-hand, and it was clearly written 'used phones' on the package as well, but they valued each phone @ Rs.2000 and charged me Rs.1000 for the import licence and Rs.750 as tax for both phones!
