This is irresponsible reporting which can cause unnecessary anxiety among parents and general public. The case reporting system of NSACP indicates that there are no school kids got infected with HIV. However, there is an increasing trend of HIV infections among 15-24 year age group. But all most all of them are in their 20s rather than in the school going age.
It is unfortunate that nobody is taking any action on these so called "National newspapers"

in Sri Lankan HIV statistics. Internationally accepted age group breakdown for HIV used by UNAIDS is <15, 15-24, 25-49 ... etc. We prefer to use the same age categories for easy international comparison. Since you need specific data,during 2015 up to 25th of June, there were 15 HIV cases in 15-24 age category. Of these 14 were in 20-24 age category and one in 15-19 age category. This person is a migrant worker deported from a foreign country. Our point is non of these are school children as published in the Divaina newspaper. At the same time we do not want promote any complacency about the HIV. Anybody who have unprotected sex with an infected partner runs the risk of getting infected with HIV irrespective of their age or social status.
