Do you think buying a whole lot of stuff from India would make us independent?

Or we will be totally dependent on India... I think its the latter!

One has to crawl before one can walk. Assemble first before going in to full manufacture.
Micro makes some good cars. The Trend is a good small car while the MVP is a good van. Even that rolling matchbox is a good compact car considering the milage it gives and the options for such a compact car. If you want the high end, the Rexton jeeps are also good machines.

its a big ocean out there, we cant look at it just as the way we look at a lab test on water + sulfuric
I heard on news that they dragged the ship out of sri lankan waters :P that might help, no sri lankan fish will be killed, it'd be better if SL navy extracted the acid from the ship :D that might boost SLs slow going economy too!!

Nice idea brother but itz a very costly process...:rolleyes:

Production costs always high when there's low demand... the best thing is to buy them and support our industry and create more demand.. the price will automatically come down with time! :)

In Malaysia they still have some restrictions on Japanese cars and govt. has a grant for the National Car maker Proton so they fully support, Proton was not upto standards till the mid 2000, but now thier new line up of CAM PRO, CPS its a kick ass product!

You can hardly find a classified selling those newer models! :)

aren't they already doing that ?
i mean imposing a 300% tax on imported vehicles
n u can buy a localy assembled vehicle for tax free ryt ?
still we dont have it ?
    why is this ??
it's all in the mindset of sri lankans man
    just to give an example
in india people are pround to drive a maruti rather than goin in a Benz
    now that's a fact
im not teling that they don't buy luxury imported ones
but they have the feeling for their mother land
    which we LACK

Our parents help us stand up and take the first steps.
When SL people and govt. helps the baby micro take its first steps, then it'll start walking on its own.

Dont forget that neither SG, MAL or India is where its at by having a economic model like what we have.
For nearly 30 years, India had only the Ambassador to drive around. From MPs to middle class citizens. They stuck with that ugly car without importing discarded Japanese cars, oh I mean 'Reconditioned' cars while building their own auto industry.
MAL has a similar story with local Toyota plants rolling out the Avanza and the other local models. Sri_Lion can explain the situation better at MAL
    .
When SL follow those foot steps, then we'll be walking on our own legs.

That is totally their part to bring in the right product... I'm just talking about the possibility! :)
