No idea about Short Shift. However Quick Shift is to lift your left foot briefly when you change gears.

Now what happens is that this allow the synchronize rings to align the wheels before it shifts to the next one. Else the wheels will be damaged. The opposite of this is power shifting.

සාමාන්යෙන් ගියර් දානකොට ගියර් ශිෆ්ටර් එක (ගියර් පොල්ල) තල්ලු කරන්න ඕන දුරක් තියනවනේ.... ෂෝර්ට් ශිෆ්ටර් /කුවික් ශිෆ්ටර් කියන්නේ බන් ඒ දුර සාමාන්‍ය ඒවාට වඩා අඩු ඒවා, සාමාන්යෙන් අගල් දෙක තුනක් තල්ලු කරපු ගමන් ගියර් වටෙනව් රේසින් කාර් වල වගේ. එකේ වාසිය ඉතින් රේසින් වලටම තමයි, ඉක්මනින් ගියර් දාන්න පුළුවන් නිසා. ඊබේ එකේ තියනවා ෂෝර්ට් ශිෆ්ටර් ඇඩප්ටර් එකක් අරන් අමුනගනින් ආසනම්
