If the media is there to criticize government what would we have an opposition for?
Like the supreme court have control over anything (theoritically) government does have control over media etc. Why do u think media respects people's rights? Its their business machan, there were many instances where media capitalized many situation, for example whenever a bomb blast occurs, Sirasa is kinda pre-located around. And this way they broadcast it first and they broadcast scenes normally you shouldnt through TV. Media should know that some viewers may find those scenes disturbing.
Before this incident Lasantha was warned, he had many cases, for me actually my life is important than anything, journalists do have the risk, any government will stand against the people who criticize them beyond limits, because a government is composed of people, even though Ranil yells at this he too killed young guys at Batalanda, you can see all this was a political game, who knows if Lasantha was killed by UNP or some other party like LTTE (less chance of course, yet possible) to put forward some unrest among people against the government.
There are things called military secrets. I am telling u all this in Buddhist perspective. Media is a money driven thing, did u think they love the public? but of course anyone is a hero on the stage, anyone is a saint.
Yes sirasa may have waited for some time tactically, (did sirasa broadcast what the president had to say to the nation- I dont know) when the islandwide attention was growing towards government's victory, sirasa basted. What would happen, I mean what would u say if siarasa was attacked the same moment kilinochchi was captured?
Why do the call president mahinda rajapaksha only while calling Mr. Prabhakaran? why should they respect prabhakaran?
