All you need is:
~ Firefox
~ Your own Gmail account (They’re free!)
~ Gmail Skins (A Firefox Addon)

Steps:

1. Open Firefox. (Or download it if you dont have it)
2. Head over to https://addons.mozilla.org, search for “Gmail skins” and click “Install Now”. Once installed, restart Firefox.
3. Login to Gmail and under the search you should see a notice saying “Gmail Skins extension has been installed. Configure on the settings page.”
4. Click on the link that takes you to go to the settings page.
5. At this page, you can select Skin preferences to show and hide things and change the color your Gmail web-interface appears.
6. Simply click “Apply” at the bottom of the page when you are done and your Gmail skin will be applied!

Tip!

* To remove or change a Gmail skin, open Gmail.com, login, and then click on “Settings” (top right).
Next, click the “Labels” tab and remove the gmail skin label by clicking “Remove” (right of the label listing).
