Sri Lanka Transport Minister Dullas Alahapperuma has agreed to the demands by the striking state transport employees who were on an island wide strike last few days.
L.Bamunukularachchi, the Deputy General Manager of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) said that the Minister has agreed to provide the strikers' demands at a special meeting held for more than four hours last night.
The striking workers demanded the government to provide a cost of living allowance and include an additional payment of Rs. 3,500 to their salaries from this month.
According to the Deputy General Manager of the SLTB, following last night's successful discussion several buses have began their normal duties with effect from early this morning.
However the main union of the SLTB said that they have not participated in the last night discussion held with the Transport Minister.
As a result of the strike commenced last Tuesday, most passengers who came to the Colombo Central Bus Stand to travel to their home villages for the holidays were severely inconvened.
