SriLankan Airlines will become a full member of oneworld, offering the alliance’s complete range of services and benefits with effect from Thursday 1 May 2014 – as the first carrier from the Indian subcontinent to become part of any global airline groups.

SriLankan Airlines was invited to join oneworld in June 2012, adding one of Asia's fastest growing airlines to oneworld.

Tracing its origins back to 1947, SriLankan Airlines today is the flag carrier airline of Sri Lanka and also the largest international airline serving Maldives. SriLankan also has a significant presence in southern India.

SriLankan Airlines has virtually doubled in size since peace returned to its home country three years ago. Substantial expansion is planned for its network and fleet in the next few years.

It now operates a fleet of 21 aircraft and carried 3.5 million passengers last year between its Colombo base and 34 destinations in 22 countries across Asia, Europe and the Middle East. That includes the following oneworld hubs: Hong Kong, London Heathrow, Moscow Domodedovo and Tokyo Narita.

Once SriLankan becomes a full member of oneworld, its FlySmiLes frequent flyer programme members will enjoy additional benefits including the ability to earn and redeem points across the oneworld network and access to more premium lounges around the world.

    Global Support
Connecting between airlines at unfamiliar airports can be a stressful experience for our customers, especially if their flight is delayed. oneworld recognises the impact delays and missed connections can have on their travel plans. That is why oneworld member airlines have partnered together to form teams of connection experts: oneworld Global Support.
At select airports across the alliance network, teams are proactively monitoring connecting flights and, whenever possible, they will meet and assist the customer if their connection is in jeopardy. The oneworld Global Support teams will do their best to allow the customer to use dedicated fast track lanes through immigration or security to help them catch their next flight. Our teams will also do everything possible to transfer the customer's checked baggage so that it makes it on time to their final destination.
If the customer misses their connecting flight, the oneworld Global Support team will provide the customer with updated travel information, a new boarding pass and, where applicable, assistance with overnight accommodations.
oneworld Global Support is currently available at London Heathrow, Madrid-Barajas, New York JFK, Miami, Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago O'Hare, Los Angeles, and Sydney. The service is offered at these airports whenever possible, subject to operational constraints
