Health Ministry bans sale of "Refresh Orange" soft drink

(Colombo Lankapuvath) The Health Ministry banned the sale of the soft drink product"Refresh Orange" immediately following the death of a 11 year old girl at Polonnaruwa after consuming a bottle of that product.

Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena personally called a report on the investigations within 24 hours of the child's death and took steps to ban the sale of the deadly drink immediately and arrest all products available in the market.

The child died as a result of consuming some chocolates and the soft drinks on her way to the hospital on Saturday night.Her mother is now recovering at the Polonnaruwa hospital.
The Government Analysts is now conducting tests on the brand of chocolates forwarded by the police,which were consumed by the child and mother.The deadly items were purchased by the father of the deceased child on Saturday night from a shop in Polonnaruwa.
