dude i dont know about the laws in us and canada but i know the law in italy for sure.
In italy once you seek political asylum or refugee it is almost like you are an italian citizen.
because they issue you an italian refugee passport which is defers from the original italian passport.
and once you have the that passport you cant return to your original country(ie: if you are a sl, you cant come to sl for that matter but you are allowed to travel elsewhere with that passport) thats how it works. so even if this war ends, it wont affect them much. might affect them as in a percentage for about 5%.
once you seek political assylum or anything its definite. they dont just throw you off that country like that just because war ends.
and as far as im concerned kosandpol is correct.
