Hey guys I have been having this problem for some time now.
Whenever I try to boot off my ubuntu live cd the shell just keeps on loading and ubuntu does not load.I cant remember the command lines that appear but I have noticed words like "frozen" keep coming up.I have tried this with ubuntu 8.04(64bit) and ubuntu 8.10(64bit).I also tried linux mint 6 by booting it from a pen drive still the same errors came.I have also tried two versions of knoppix on my system these also failed.I have tested all the above(ubuntu, linux mint and knoppix) on virtual box and they have all worked.
    My system specs are-
    Motherboard-Asus P5W DH Delux
    RAM-4GB DDR2 Kingston
    VGA-Asus 7300LE
    Processor-Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4
    Hard Drives-IDE primary-120GB Maxtor
    SATA-250GB Maxtor
    SATA-500GB Seagate

    may be few reasons

1 (common one) your CDS are damaged.
2 your PC is not compatible (very rarely)
3 Your HDD is sux. (very rarely)

i think you got a misswritten CD...

1st scan CD for defects (option is in the boot menu)

    then tell me

    this is very rare error.

    Options (wht u can do)
    1. try removing your primary HDD(IDE one) keep only one SATA drive only(might make things alot easier, after testing you can plug it in again)
    2. If above option fails, try to load up linux thru the live CD; i dont think a HDD is compulsory for Live CD boot - try removing all the hard drives and to boot from CD(dont worry you have enough RAM :D; i think i did this one but not sure give it a try)

The problem might be with your disk drives because linux needs exact clean MBR records ..windows crumbles with the MBR sometimes and viruses might change MBR eventhough windows boots perfect the MBR might be damaged, anyway by removing the drives MBRs go with them ne so no worries after removing them :) ...we just need to check whether all of ur other hardware are compatible with linux(very rarely it lacks support natively)

Thanks for your input bro. Will try what you suggested. So far I have tried 3 versions of ubuntu with the same result(got 6.06 from a friend)Every time I tried to boot using the live cd option.I also tried booting linux mint from a pen drive with the same result.
